Who this is for: self-serve plans (Free, Starter, Pro, Scale). If you bought a Cleanlist AppSumo lifetime deal, your features, limits, and pricing are different — see the AppSumo documentation instead. Support agent: confirm whether the user is self-serve or AppSumo before giving plan-specific advice.
TL;DR: Cleanlist has three AI Agents — Research (3 / 3 / 5 credits by scope), Qualification (5 credits, ICP score + CRM check), and Custom (your saved prompts; confirmation card shows exact cost). They're grounded in an auto-built Organization Profile and available as Smart Columns or via Cleanlist Copilot, the in-app conversational assistant (Starter+).
AI Agents & Cleanlist Copilot
AI Agents turn raw leads into decisions. Instead of manually researching and scoring prospects, you point an agent at a lead (or a whole list) and it does the work — grounded in what your company actually sells. Cleanlist Copilot is the in-app conversational assistant that lets you drive those same actions in plain language.
The three agents
Research
Deep-research a lead's company, contact, or both. A scope toggle controls depth and cost:
| Scope | What it covers | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| Company-only | Firmographics, positioning, signals | 3 |
| Contact-only | Role, background, relevant context | 3 |
| Both | Company + contact together | 5 |
Output is a hybrid of structured fields and a readable markdown summary.
Qualification
Score a lead against your ICP and automatically check whether they're already in your CRM. Returns a fit score, a verdict, and the reasons behind it.
- Cost: 5 credits per lead
- Includes an automatic CRM presence check so you can prioritize net-new contacts
Custom
Write your own prompt and save it as a reusable Custom Agent. Output is markdown, ideal for bespoke research, summaries, and per-lead drafting.
- Cost: The confirmation card always shows the exact credit cost before you approve — the amount depends on your prompt length.
The Organization Profile
When you onboard, Cleanlist runs an orchestration that auto-builds an Organization Profile from your website and LinkedIn. It captures:
- Industry
- ICP and target personas
- Value propositions
- Competitors
- Products
- Geographic focus
This profile is stored once per organization and injected as context into every Research and Qualification run, so agents reason about prospects the way someone on your team would — not generically. Admins can edit the profile later to refine that context.
A better Organization Profile makes every Research and Qualification run sharper. If your positioning changes, update the profile so agents stay aligned.
Agents as Smart Columns
All three agents are also exposed as Smart Column types — research, qualification, and custom_ai (the Custom Agent runs on the custom_ai rail) — so you can run them across an entire lead list, not just one lead at a time. Same engines, same credit costs, applied row by row. Agent Smart Columns require a Pro plan or above.
Cleanlist Copilot
Cleanlist Copilot is Cleanlist's in-app conversational assistant. You chat with it in natural language to run actions and skills across the platform without leaving the conversation.
Cleanlist Copilot is available on Starter and above. It is not available on AppSumo plans (unless you also subscribe to a paid Cleanlist plan) — see the AppSumo docs.
Open Copilot with Cmd+J (Ctrl+J on Windows) or by clicking the Copilot icon. Cmd+K (Ctrl+K on Windows) opens the command palette instead.
Three modes
Copilot adapts to what you're working on:
| Mode | How to enter | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Work on a list | Open a list, then open Copilot | Import, enrich, run agents, apply filters — all within the open list |
| Upload a CSV/XLSX | Tap the paperclip in the Copilot composer | Columns are auto-mapped; creating or appending a list this way is free |
| One-off, no list | Open Copilot without a list active | Free inline email/phone validation; find one person; reverse-lookup an email |
One-off results (find a person, reverse email lookup) land in an auto-created "Quick Actions: …" list so they're never lost.
What Copilot can do
Copilot has access to the following tools:
- People search — search Cleanlist's database by title, company, location, and more
- Web people-search — search the open web for people when the database doesn't have a match
- Company lookup — look up firmographic data on any company
- Lead-list CRUD + copy — create, rename, delete, and copy lists
- View leads — read leads in the current list
- Navigate the app — deep-link you to any part of the product
- Check credit balance — tell you your current balance at any time
- Estimate cost — show a cost estimate before you commit
- Apply filters (list mode) — filter the open list by any field
- Free inline validation — validate an email or phone number without spending credits
- List saved agents — browse your org's Custom Agents
- Read your Organization Profile — ground answers in your company's context
Confirmation cards — how Copilot protects your credits
Before any action that spends credits, Copilot shows a confirmation card that displays:
- The exact credit cost for the action
- Your current credit balance
- A 10-minute window to confirm or cancel
You must confirm before any credits are spent. Copilot never silently charges you or claims an action is done before you approve it.
Actions that trigger a confirmation card:
| Action | Cost shown on card |
|---|---|
| Import leads to a list | 0.5 credits/lead (max 2,500 leads) |
| Email enrichment | 1 credit/lead (pay-for-results) |
| Phone enrichment | 10 credits/lead (pay-for-results) |
| Full enrichment (email + phone) | Up to 11 credits/lead |
| Run a Smart Column or agent | Varies by type — card shows exact total |
| Delete a list | No credit cost — confirmation still required |
| Delete leads | No credit cost — confirmation still required |
| Move leads | No credit cost — confirmation still required |
| Reverse email lookup | Up to 2 credits/email |
| Find a person | Up to 1.5 credits/person |
Slash skills
Type a / in the Copilot composer to access shortcuts:
| Skill | What it does |
|---|---|
/prospect | Start a people search |
/agents | List and launch your saved agents |
/enrich | Enrich leads in the current list |
/lists | Browse and switch lists |
Quick Actions
When you're in one-off mode (no list open), Copilot surfaces common tasks as Quick Actions buttons so you don't have to type:
- Find a person by name and company
- Reverse-lookup an email address
- Validate an email address inline (free)
- Validate a phone number inline (free)
Results from credit-spending Quick Actions are saved to an auto-created "Quick Actions: …" list.
Saved conversations & knowledge base
- Conversations are saved and auto-titled — every Copilot session is stored so you can pick up where you left off.
- Docs-backed knowledge base — Copilot can answer product questions using the Cleanlist documentation. Ask it how a feature works and it will pull from the docs.
Rate limit
Chat is rate-limited to 30 messages per minute per user.
Model
Cleanlist Copilot runs on the claude-sonnet-4-6 model.
What Copilot can't do
Copilot cannot open a live chat or connect you to a human. For human support, email support@cleanlist.ai.
Free tier
Free-tier users get one seeded people search through Copilot. After that, Copilot prompts you to upgrade to Starter to continue.
